Obudu: Nature in its pristine state

For lovers of an adventure holiday or New Year break, the Obudu Mountain Resort is the place to be this holiday season.

 Popular with nature lovers, adventurers, adrenalin seekers and the rest, Obudu is located in the highlands of Cross River State, Nigeria about 45 miles from the border with Cameroon.

 It's situated deep in the tropical rain forest with amazing scenery and unpolluted and unspoiled landscape still in its primordial state.








Its high altitude, (1576 metres above sea level) gives the area a temperate climate, which is in sharp contrast to the tropical weather of other parts of the country.
 Over the years, Obudu has become a tourist haven due to its natural endowments and peaceful setting suitable for hiking, bird watching, cycling with an annual competition, the Obudu Mountain Race taking place there.
A big attraction at the resort is the cable car which runs from the entrance of the resort at the bottom of the mountain up to the ranch resort at the summit.




Claimed to be the world’s longest cable car system, it was built with 34 cars, each carrying eight people and covering a distance of four kilometres up through the clouds. It provides amazing and dramatic views of green, rolling hills and mountains.





Driving to the resort can be quite exhilarating, especially the last ten kilometres of winding road with its 22 bends, including the famous Devil’s Elbow halfway along.

 Some of the attractions in Obudu resort include the Becheve Nature Resort, home to 250 different species of migratory birds that have been observed at the ranch at different times throughout the year, the 60 km canopy walkway built in the form of a ladder tree house which tourists can trek on unhindered for breathtaking, panoramic views of the landscape that stretch out across the plateau, waterfalls, golf course and cattle ranch among others.
